Lamb Of God - February 12th, 2010 in Manchester, England

You know a band has made it big when they have their own slip mats. By this, I mean two massive “Lamb Of God” mats covering the whole of the stage.

After a 15 year long career, Lamb Of God can still pack them into venues. There were probably even some kids in the crowd who were still crawling when their very first CD was released. As for the show – highly entertaining. Lead singer, Randy Blythe, jumping around and running across the stage like a guy possessed. As for the rest of the group – still showing any usurpers how to make proper balls to the wall metal. ...continue.

Job For A Cowboy - February 12th, 2010 in Manchester, England

Probably one of the heaviest bands I’ve seen in a while. I saw them a few years back and they certainly didn’t impress me as much as they did at this show.

They played a mixture of older songs to appease the old school fans and some new songs from their latest CD. If there were some audience members skeptical of these guys before seeing them as this show, I’m pretty sure once the show finished, they were straight on the computer downloading some of their tracks. ...continue.

Between The Buried And Me - February 12th, 2010 in Manchester, England

The opening act of any massive metal show such has always got a difficult task on their hands. Choosing the right way to go about it can be a little bit tricky.

Personally, I love Between the Buried and Me. I’ve seen them live many times before and they always blow me away with their epic progressive metal. However, a twenty minute set is a bit unfair on a band whose majority of songs never really dip below the 5 minute mark. So what’s a band to do? Well if you’re BTBAM, play one twenty minute epic song. Suffice to say, the crowd were pretty darned impressed! ...continue.

August Burns Red - February 12th, 2010 in Manchester, England

Who says the devil has all the best tunes? Certainly not August Burns Red. There are so many people that I know that instantly assume that anything labeled as Christian Metal must be “lame” or just plain rubbish.

Despite the band wearing their religion on their sleeves, they certainly don’t preach anything in their lyrics or live performances. In fact, these guys just want to rock out...and boy they sure do! Fat, chunky beatdowns and chugging riffs; due to the shorter set time, they had to race through some of their heavier songs but the show was still nonetheless enjoyable. ...continue.

Great Lake Swimmers - February 5th, 2010 in Toronto, Ontario

After getting over the nostalgic feelings I became anxious to hear Great Lake Swimmers in such an intense venue. The sound in the church was better than any live recording I have ever heard.

There is something about the Great Lake Swimmers' music that makes you think that they are playing just for you. However, this could have been because I stood alone at the back of the church. I was the only other person aside from the band standing in the venue. Or so it felt.

I recommend a church show to anyone and everyone. The sound plus the scene itself is completely overwhelming. ...continue.

Sharon Van Etten - February 5th, 2010 in Toronto, Ontario

If the scene was already heavenly enough it certainly gained that feeling the second Sharon Van Etten opened her mouth to sing. She stood alone on the stage with her bright red guitar with the stunning organ pipes behind her.

The crowd sat in the pews ...continue.
