Last night Jessica and I watched the movie Thirteen. There was nothing else on TV – I had seen the movie cover in the rental store a million times over the years but just never bothered to pick it up.

The movie cover has two girls – presumably thirteen – sticking out their tongues with what I thought was E on them. I always thought to myself “why do I want to watch a movie about thirteen year old girls doing E? Well turns out it wasn't E on their tongues it was actually tongue piercings. Regardless they still did a ton of E, so it might as well been E in the first place.

Anyways the point of this is that that movie got me thinking about what I did when I was thirteen – and it sure as hell wasn't piercing anything and doing E.

I remember spending Fridays nights with my mum. We would pack up some snacks and head out to this really old – really amazing auction. The auction was in this old barn out on HWY# 9. It took about 20 minutes to drive out there – the whole way out we would joke around and imitate the way the auction man speaks to the bidders. You know, “Can I geta doller? Whos gotta doller? Do I hear three?” I could always bust my mum up doing my own version – which made no real sense.

Friday nights were packed out at the old auction. Things started around 7:30PM and we would usually leave by 10PM – unless we were forced to stay to bid on something great. I found so many amazing treasures out at that auction. I got my first set of drums – which was a vintage Stewart three piece. They had a gold glitter wrap and sounded so warm and amazing; a real find. Besides those drums I started a few collections out of that auction. One was a collection of old skeleton keys – all sorts of shapes and sizes. I still have the first one my mum got on my key chain – the rest are hidden away. Another awesome collection was my comics.
