Death From Above 1979
They went into Black History Month while I was standing in the can remembering this really bad joke I heard when I was 18 or 19. The joke was about how you don't buy beer, you rent it; I laughed because I was in the midst of a $25.00 piss (including tips). I was also thinking that they should have one of those flat screen TV's mounted on the wall above the urinal; with a live feed of the band. Damned if they didn't sound better in there, than out in front of the stage. Maybe it was the beer.
I probably would have stayed in there for the rest of the set but my honey was out there in the crowd screaming for Sebastien to take off his clothes and well...going to see a band and spending the set hanging out in the washroom is just weird. Besides, they don't serve in the washroom and I was getting thirsty again.
Wading back through the crowd to our spot, I found myself marveling once again at how much Jesse looks like some kind of transplant from a 70's porn flick; it's totally the mustache that does it. Come to think of it, so does Sebastien. The pair of them are a Golden-Age-Of-Porn revival waiting to happen. Another half hour of watching Sebastien manhandle his kit, kicking out some of the most ferocious psycho-sex-rawwk beats I've seen in years, I couldn't help but think that anyone who drums like that has got to be some kind of monster in the sack.
I'll bet Sebastien listened to WASP when he was in high school; he probably heard "Fuck Like A Beast" and adopted it as a personal credo. I can't hear DFA1979 without thinking that every single song sounds like the best music ever to fuck to. Am I the only one who thinks of things like this?
Wait a minute. What was the point of all this? Oh right. Show review.
I came. I saw. I got drunk. The band was so fucking righteous it's a miracle that my head didn't explode from sheer ecstasy. Death From Above 1979 rock like you wish your band did. Repeat after me: DEATH FROM ABOVE ARE GOD. Amen.
